Midleton Dair Ghaelach Review

We know that various elements affect the taste and even appearance of a whiskey, including the contents put into the whiskey and the fermentation process. What is great about this is that distillers can come up with all sorts of ways to bring us unique creations just by customizing its production process here or there.

Today, we introduce one of these special whiskeys, which goes by the name of the Midleton Dair Ghaelach. This particular whiskey is produced in an Irish pot still and matured in conventional barrels first and later in homegrown Irish oak.

What Do We Know About Midleton Dair Ghaelach?

Midleton Very Rare is one of the remaining original Whiskey companies. Their journey began in 1825; collaborating with Jameson and Powers during the 60s, they formed a distillers group.

The feature that makes the Midleton Diar Ghaelach distinct from many other whiskeys is that this range uses different caskets from a particular forest and makes barrels from separate trees. This series includes seven different types of bottles, from tree 1 to tree 7

Generally, seven mature oak trees are selected from Knockrath forest and then later converted into seven beautiful caskets and filled up with a bottle of whiskey that has aged for many years.

Review of Midleton Dair Ghaelach

This whiskey review of Midleton Dair Ghaelach looks at the various elements of its experience.

Midleton Dair Ghaelach Detailed Review

Appearance:

It has a rich caramelized color that is pleasing and warm to the eyes.

Nose:

Very aromatic and a note of vanilla and intense aroma of oak wood gives this whiskey a pleasant experience when you smell it. Many tropical fruits like berries, pineapple, and mango are also included, which is normal for Midleton.

You can find an influence of fruit cocktail, and a pleasant touch of spicy cinnamon and the intensity of pastille whiskey and a little fruitiness, and later an essence of chocolate will appear.

You will also get a taste of banana, orchard fruit, a coat of nutmeg and a light note of vanilla beans, dried fruits, and an ending taste of brown sugar. The taste of the drink is not too sweet and imparts hefty oak that leaves an aftertaste.

Taste:

After taking a sip, many elements and spices hit your taste buds like a roller coaster. You will find a pleasant combination of chocolate and subtle touch of coconut, caramel, and leather in every sip. On the palate, you will get a light mixture of coffee essence, overpowering tobacco leaf: a very pleasant coffee effect and an orange flavor.

Finish:

It finishes with a sweet, creamy essence of caramel and oak. There is a touch of citrus peel, almonds, and cloves, which adds depth to the drink.

What Makes the Midleton Dair Ghaelach Unique?

It is one of the most complicated yet perfectly fabricated whiskeys one can try. Midleton is the first modern distillery to produce a virgin Irish oak-finished single pot whiskey. This oak travels to Spain and is then seasoned for one and a half years and then returns for completion in Midleton Distillery, County Cork.

Different Bottle taste review:

Tree 1 review

One can taste a little cranberry, watermelon, and cherry, with a deeper essence of raisins and plum, and later can experience a blast of spices. A thick and heavy feel in the mouth starts with caramel and vanilla and later slides into a coffee note and a touch of raspberry and finally a sharp taste of spice.

Tree 2 review

This drink will give you a hint of vanilla and caramel, which have less piercing wood spices than Tree 1. You can experience an aromatic sense of cloves, dried morel mushrooms, and fruity taste.

Tree 3 review

You will smell oak, a swish of vanilla, and paprika. You will get a strong taste of toffee, slight nuttiness, and spiciness of cloves which will take your breath away. It all ends with a vanilla finish.

Tree 4 review

This is one of those whiskeys which can make your teeth grit because of its strong flavor. You will find the smell of the tree species is strong, complementing its beautiful taste profile of vanilla, banana, and hazelnut.

Tree 5 review

This is a perfect example of a blend between its American and Irish contributions. You will get a subtle taste of vanilla, lemon, and a creamy custard sauce. After some minutes, you can feel a sudden rush of tree species on your palate and a peek of chocolate and coffee.

Tree 6 review

You will find a particular feel of orange, vanilla, and strawberry, and later a pepper on the nose. This drink will serve a variety of fruits like peach, citrus, and berries, then a fade of peppery finish and caramel.

Tree 7 review

This has a fruity taste that includes orange, pomegranate, and pear. It has a rush of nature on the smell and a little hint of grape and spices, especially cloves and pepper.

Parting Words

I would like to recommend the Midleton Dair Ghaelach Tree 3 to all the whiskey lovers out there who love a subtle touch of all fruits with a hint of spices. It has an amazing taste overall, though do consider that it is quite expensive for what you get. Still, this is a very classic drink with an excellent combination of spice and deep, robust flavors.
